Antique Bass Ale Pyrogene/Match Striker (Early 1900's)
Early 20th century ironstone match holder and striker, or pyrogene. These advertising pieces would have been commonplace in pubs at the time, for patrons to light their cigarettes. This piece features Bass Ale (in bottle) and was made by Royal Doulton England. Signed on base along with crest and “No. 473834.” Dates between approx. 1900-1915. Center well for holding matches and featuring green match strikes on three sides (excellent working condition). “Bass in Bottle” in type on both sides. Overall great condition, with some discoloration and wear on striker from use. A rare find- especially in this condition.
